Berkshire Hathaway shares rose more than 5% this week, while the S&P 500 fell 2.7% and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 3.4% amid fears over massive spending on data centers. Berkshire is now 5.8 percentage points ahead of the S&P 500 this year, compared with a 13.6-point deficit one month ago, and stands 6% above its record closing level from May 3, 2025. The performance contrasts with Alphabet’s 20% decline, which reduced the value of Berkshire’s stake from $37.8 billion on June 30 to $30.2 billion. Berkshire also bought $27 million of additional Sirius XM shares, lifting the stock 18.6% since earnings were released, while Pacific Power requested a 57% rate increase in California.
