Base completes Cobalt upgrade, adds new tools for tokenized assets

Base completed its Cobalt upgrade, introducing Validity Transactions that allow users to submit conditional transactions activated only when specific onchain conditions are met, such as a predetermined price before a deadline. The network also plans to reduce block times from two seconds to 200 milliseconds over the coming months. This upgrade follows Base’s strategic shift toward tokenized financial assets after launching the B20 standard on July 8 for stablecoins and real-world assets, followed by Coinbase introducing tokenized shares of Apple, Nvidia, Meta and Alphabet on August 25. Jesse Pollak, creator of Base, acknowledged having made a wrong bet by focusing on content and creator applications, announcing a refocus on financial applications.
