Emin Gun Sirer, founder and CEO of Ava Labs, stated on October 9, 2026 that AI is far more likely to exploit software bugs than break ECDSA, the signature scheme protecting most crypto transactions. He revealed that Avalanche is nonetheless exploring backup cryptography options, including a proposal from Haseeb Qureshi for a cryptographic recovery mode based on hash-based approaches. The network is also studying hash-based schemes as a precaution against potential vulnerabilities AI might exploit. No timeline or implementation details were announced for a protocol upgrade, and Sirer confirmed that no confirmed exploits have been detected.
