Aston Villa, Man City, and Newcastle are closing in on Monaco’s all-time transfer sales record

Three Premier League clubs – Aston Villa, Manchester City and Newcastle United – have each generated over €275 million in player sales this summer, directly threatening the €360 million record set by AS Monaco during the 2018/19 window when Kylian Mbappé transferred to Paris Saint-Germain. Aston Villa leads with approximately €293 million in departures, including the club-record sale of Morgan Rogers to Chelsea for €138 million. Manchester City has totaled around €279 million and Newcastle around €276 million, with major moves including Bruno Guimarães to Arsenal for €87.5 million and Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for €80 million. These massive sales are driven by England’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, which cap losses over a rolling three-year period and force clubs to sell players to comply with financial regulations.
