Protocol upgrade decouples consensus from execution to solve scaling bottlenecks

Share

MultiversX has launched Supernova, a protocol upgrade that decouples consensus from execution, enabling the network to agree on blocks before transaction processing completes. This asynchronous approach reduces in-shard finality to 100-250 milliseconds, with overall execution trailing consensus by approximately 600 milliseconds. The testnet has been live since August 20, 2026, and mainnet activation is scheduled for September 10, 2026. Cointelegraph joined MultiversX as a validator through the CTDG program in March 2026, deepening a collaboration that includes CTDG Dev Hub partner status. This architectural shift aims to make blockchains behave more like responsive application infrastructure, benefiting high-frequency DeFi applications and onchain order books.
