The 25-year-old player had been injured on August 5 during a Champions League qualifier against Sturm Graz, with the initial diagnosis being a hamstring problem. The deal was structured as a paid loan of roughly 1 to 1.5 million euros, with an option to buy set between 15 and 18 million euros that would have become obligatory after 15 to 20 appearances. Roma ultimately walked away on August 27, deeming the medical risks too significant, and Oosterwolde returned to Istanbul. Fenerbahçe now retains the player, who had made 112 appearances for the club, and must manage his recovery.
