A federal judge closed the criminal investigation into Javier Milei, his sister Karina, and nine other people, finding no evidence of deception tied to the collapse of the $LIBRA memecoin. Prosecutor Eduardo Taiano had recommended closing the case, citing insufficient evidence to establish fraud, influence peddling, or abuse of power. Judge Marcelo MartÃnez de Giorgi said the token’s extreme volatility was typical of memecoins and that Milei’s promotion of $LIBRA was a personal action rather than an official government endorsement. After Milei posted the token’s contract address on February 14, 2025, it reportedly lost 80% to 90% of its value and caused an estimated $251 million in investor losses. The case remains effectively closed, pending any appeals.
