John Ternus hosted his first keynote as Apple CEO at the ‘Surprise and Shine’ event on September 9, unveiling a redesigned Siri and the A20 Pro chip, the first smartphone processor built on TSMC’s 2-nanometer process. The new Siri AI runs on Google’s Gemini technology under a deal reportedly worth about $1 billion a year, and will not work on any iPhone or iPad in the European Union at launch. The A20 Pro features a dual 32-core Neural Engine, doubled from 16 cores in the previous generation, delivering 20% faster CPU and 40% faster GPU performance. Apple’s first foldable device, the iPhone Duo, starts at $1,999 and won’t reach stores until October.
