Anthropic announced on August 27 the launch of 10,000 Claude subscription seats specifically for researchers. Standard seats are free while premium seats cost $15 monthly for one year, compared to approximately $180 on the commercial market. Recipients must be principal investigators at accredited institutions in natural sciences, mathematics, computer science, or engineering. The company is also expanding its AI for Science grant program to up to $50,000 in compute credits per qualifying project, up from the initial $30,000. Anthropic’s estimated valuation now stands at approximately $900 billion.
