Anthropic maps first 3D structure of a prokaryotic vault particle using Claude

Share

Anthropic says it has produced the first three-dimensional structure of a vault particle found in prokaryotic cells. Its Claude model contributed to the literature search, the optimization of methods for isolating the particles and the mapping of their three-dimensional shape. Tasks that would normally take weeks or months were reduced to a few days, while human oversight remained necessary to correct model errors. The structure elucidates a large, hollow protein barrel known since 1986, but its biological function remains undetermined. It may nevertheless provide clues about cellular transport and stress responses in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms.
