Amazon will no longer require local and state governments to sign nondisclosure agreements for its US data center projects. This policy change comes as Representative Jamie Raskin launched a congressional inquiry into how Big Tech companies use such agreements with public officials. In March 2026, Amazon paid over $427 million for a 111-acre site in Ashburn, Virginia, to expand its data center footprint in Loudoun County. Google and Meta, both named in Raskin’s inquiry, will now be asked to explain this practice to Congress. Residents in affected areas should now be able to obtain information about facility size and tax incentives earlier in the approval process.
