Amazon has appointed Kevin Mandia, a cybersecurity veteran and former CEO of Mandiant, to its board of directors. Mandia founded Mandiant in 2004 and sold it to Google for $5.4 billion in 2022, leaving Google in 2024 to launch a new startup called Armadin, which uses AI to identify network vulnerabilities. His appointment comes as companies face new cybersecurity threats tied to AI, with OpenAI disclosing a breach of the Hugging Face platform in July and Anthropic limiting the rollout of its Mythos AI model over hacking concerns. According to a securities filing, Mandia was awarded 4,086 shares of Amazon common stock valued at approximately $1 million, vesting in three equal annual installments starting November 15, 2027.
