Mercado Bitcoin, Brazil’s largest cryptocurrency platform, was targeted in an attack on November 2, with estimated losses of $40 million that have not yet been officially confirmed. According to Hypernative, the stolen funds may have been transferred suspiciously across at least 10 networks, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and Tron. The method used and the identity of the attackers remain unknown. The incident follows the hack of Binance, which reportedly caused $6.3 billion in losses and prompted $6.5 billion in withdrawals within 24 hours of its reopening. Experts say that the speed and irreversibility of transfers on cryptocurrency platforms encourage hacking, while additional controls, such as separating signing authorities and imposing withdrawal limits, could reduce risks.
