A Base Traffic Spike Crowded Robinhood Chain Out Of Ethereum’s Blob Space

A surge of transactions on Base filled Ethereum’s blob space on Friday, preventing Robinhood Chain’s batch poster from submitting its transaction batches to Ethereum for a total of 14 minutes. Congestion caused blob base fees to climb 27-fold in less than an hour, with the ceiling fixed at 21 blobs per Ethereum block. Robinhood Chain’s batch poster quadrupled its fee bid to regain access, while Base’s batcher quadrupled its submission rate over the same period. Robinhood Chain remains the largest buyer of blob space on Ethereum, accounting for 28% of all blobs posted during the crunch, yet its users saw no disruption as blocks continued to be produced locally on the chain.
