OpenAI’s Dots agents can read your email for 2FA codes but hesitate to enter them

OpenAI’s new Dots agents, launched on September 29, 2026, operate in the background on the GPT-6 Astra model and can connect to more than 4,000 applications. With the user’s permission, they can retrieve a sign-up or verification code from their inbox and learn how to complete two-factor authentication. OpenAI has paired the feature with custom rules, automated review, and restrictions on transactions and changes to sensitive data. Early user feedback indicates that the agents often hesitate to enter 2FA codes even when they can access them. Dots is currently available to ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium subscribers, who receive one agent, as well as to a group of companies participating in the beta.
