Zcash activated the NU7 upgrade on its mainnet at 02:34 UTC on Friday, November 6, at block 3,543,405. The target interval between blocks has been reduced from 75 to 25 seconds, which should accelerate confirmations and raise the maximum throughput of Orchard private transactions from 2.9 to 6.6 transactions per second. Exchanges requiring three confirmations could cut waiting times from nearly four minutes to around 75 seconds. NU7 also changes fee distribution, with 40% going to miners and 60% entering a reserve for future mining rewards, while disabling version 4 transactions and leaving approximately 12,224 ZEC unspendable in the Sprout privacy pool.
