Russia: Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT to Arrive on the Moscow Exchange in December

Share

The Moscow Exchange plans to open trading in Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT on December 1, 2026, with a gradual rollout. Initial transactions will use the equities market infrastructure, with settlement on the same day or the next, while currency swap operations will be offered to manage liquidity. Individuals will have to pass a test, their purchases will be capped at 300,000 rubles per year and per broker, and they will not be allowed to transfer cryptocurrencies to wallets they control. The ban on direct transactions between individuals will take effect on July 1, 2027. The launch of USDT remains uncertain because the Moscow Exchange and its clearing house have been under U.S. sanctions since June 2024, with no details provided on how funds would be protected.
