Following the Democrats’ victories in the House and Senate, as well as Gina Hinojosa’s win in Texas, Dan Ives expects the construction of US AI data centers to slow. According to the Yorkville Ives & Co. analyst, 5% to 10% of the roughly 800 to 1,000 planned facilities may not be built, representing 40 to 100 sites. He attributes the decline to increased regulatory scrutiny and political resistance, particularly in Texas, which is expected to host 25% to 30% of the nation’s data center electricity capacity through 2030. Ives also projects that the growth in Big Tech capital expenditure will peak in 2027, although spending will continue to rise at a slower pace.
