Polygon Proposes Hard Fork to Recover 70.5 Million POL Stolen in Binance and Polymarket Hacks

Polygon has proposed a coordinated hard fork to recover 70.5 million POL tokens, valued at approximately $7 million, stolen in late October hacks targeting Binance and Polymarket. Of the total, 46.63 million POL came from the Binance attack, while 23.86 million POL were linked to the Polymarket incident. The protocol would alter the balances of the five targeted addresses without requiring a private key and then credit the recovered funds to addresses controlled by the victim platforms. The proposal must undergo testing on the Amoy network and be approved by a validator vote, with a risk of a blockchain split if the update is not fully activated.
