Tron, Tether and Binance’s T3 Financial Crime Unit quietly disbanded

The T3 Financial Crime Unit, founded in September 2024 by Tron, Tether and TRM Labs, was disbanded in late August 2026 after operating for nearly two months without a public announcement. Bloomberg reported that slow response times and poor coordination among members led to its closure. Binance joined the expanded T3+ program in September 2025, and the unit worked with authorities in 23 jurisdictions, freezing more than $450 million in illicit assets by May 2026, up from $250 million in mid-2025. The frozen funds were linked to hacks, terrorist financing and drug trafficking. Tron plans to launch new initiatives to combat illicit blockchain activity, while Tether intends to continue working with TRM Labs through the Beacon Network.
