Credit Mutuel Arkea confirmed that a cyberattack enabled hackers to make fraudulent transfers from a bank account without affecting customer assets. The bank said the attackers accessed the platform of a service provider and then used Credit Mutuel Arkea’s own account to transfer funds to other banks, where the money could potentially be converted into cryptocurrencies. On-chain investigator ZachXBT estimates the losses at more than $133 million, a figure the bank does not confirm but whose magnitude it validates. Credit Mutuel Arkea said part of the funds has been frozen, operations have resumed and a limited number of transfers were suspended as a precaution. The group serves 5.8 million customers and holds €211.5 billion in assets.
