The French National Assembly adopted an amendment from La France Insoumise that would raise the financial transaction tax rate from 0.4% to 0.5%. It would also apply to ETFs, bonds, foreign shares and transactions completed within the same day, with the latter taxed at 0.1%. Derivatives would be subject to a 0.01% rate, while transactions could escape the tax when routed entirely through a foreign broker with no French financial institution involved. La France Insoumise estimates that the reform could generate up to 11 billion euros in additional annual revenue, although the figure remains uncertain because investors may shift their transactions abroad. The amendment passed by 33 votes to 26, with 37 abstentions, but still requires further parliamentary approval and could be removed from the final 2027 budget.
