Brazilian exchange Mercado Bitcoin acknowledged a security incident that occurred overnight on November 2 and suspended deposits and withdrawals as a precaution. According to Hypernative, more than $40 million in assets were transferred to newly created addresses across at least ten blockchains, mainly within 34 minutes. The attacker’s wallet reportedly held about 2,852 ETH, 106 BTC, 10,700 SOL and more than 200 types of tokens. Transfers properly signed with the platform’s legitimate keys point to compromised private keys or faulty infrastructure rather than a smart contract exploit. Mercado Bitcoin has not confirmed the amount or the affected system, but says it contained the incident and is tracing the funds in coordination with the authorities.
