Andrej Karpathy launched HackerTube on October 31, 2026, a video website available at hackertube.org that brings together recommendations made in Hacker News comments. Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Sonnet models processed nearly 40,000 comments published between 2007 and 2026 in about two hours, consuming roughly 504 million input tokens and 7.6 million output tokens. The final selection contains 6,454 videos across 150 topics, with each video required to have been recommended by multiple community members at different times. The service requires no account, stores recommendations in the browser, offers keyboard shortcuts and allows users to download the entire dataset as a compressed file. Karpathy personally handled only three tasks during the project: obtaining a Google Cloud API key, starting a virtual private server and buying the domain name.
