The US Secret Service announced on October 30, 2026, that it was working with Circle to recover funds stolen in the October 29 hack of Binance, which drained approximately $6.3 billion in assets. The attack reportedly unfolded in about 20 minutes, with the stolen funds moving across ten blockchains. Circle froze more than $800 million in USDC linked to the incident, while Tether froze around $1.57 billion in USDT, bringing total frozen assets to nearly $3 billion. Binance suspended withdrawals and set aside more than $6.34 billion in its Secure Asset Fund for Users, known as SAFU, to reimburse victims in the same tokens they lost. The FBI is also involved in the recovery effort, but authorities have not confirmed the alleged attribution of the attack to North Korean-linked actors.
