Secret Service, FBI Join Binance Hack Probe as Circle Freezes $823 Million

Binance is cooperating with the FBI, the U.S. Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies after hackers stole $6.4 billion from the exchange. Circle froze about $823 million in USDC connected to the attack, while Tether said it blocked $1.567 billion in USDT. TRM Labs and Chainalysis attributed the theft to the North Korean group TraderTraitor, which was also linked to the $1.5 billion Bybit hack in February 2025. Binance has reserved more than $6.34 billion to cover the losses, says about $3 billion has been located or frozen with industry assistance, and has suspended withdrawals while reviewing its security infrastructure. The group identified additional points of intrusion but says it found no evidence that wallet private keys were leaked.
