Binance said it has set aside more than $6.34 billion in company funds to cover losses from the cyberattack, including $5 billion invested in the exact tokens that were stolen. The assets are held in Binance custody and will appear in the exchange’s next proof-of-reserves report. The exchange did not specify when it acquired the tokens, which remain to be purchased or how much of the stolen funds has been recovered. It confirmed that the $6.3 billion cyberattack affected assets across 10 blockchains and was attributed by TRM Labs to the North Korean group TraderTraitor. About $3 billion in affected assets were frozen with assistance from blockchain partners, while Binance reports weekly on its company funds to Abu Dhabi’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority.
