The $6.3 billion theft suffered by Binance shares several similarities with the attacks on Bybit and Bitget, both attributed to TraderTraitor, a group linked to North Korea. Funds from the two hacks converged on the same Ethereum address after passing through THORChain, potentially pointing to shared activity or a common money-laundering network. TRM Labs attributed the Binance theft to TraderTraitor with high confidence, although this remains an unofficial attribution. All three attacks reportedly involved compromising a workstation or service provider rather than stealing a private key. Binance says it has frozen approximately $3 billion in assets, while $1.4 billion in bitcoin held across 19 wallets reportedly remains unfrozen.
