The Meaux court sentenced two men arrested over an attempted kidnapping targeting a father, his wife and their daughter in Juilly, Seine-et-Marne, in February. The attackers believed they were stealing 660 bitcoins, but the wallet held only 0.066 BTC, worth about 4,000 euros, because of a reporting error on a platform specializing in crypto tax declarations. They nevertheless took the victims’ phones and computers, along with a total haul worth less than 10,000 euros. Convicted at an immediate hearing on October 16, the two defendants received sentences of 18 months in prison and three years in prison, respectively.
