Argentine fintech Ripio has applied to Brazil’s central bank for authorization to operate as a virtual asset broker and in the foreign exchange market. Its application, filed on October 27, 2026, came three days before the October 30 deadline for existing operators to comply with Brazil’s new regulatory framework. The company is seeking approval to provide intermediation and custody services while converting customers’ Brazilian real balances into wBRL, its own stablecoin. It also plans to discontinue Pix deposits and certain trading features by October 29, 2026. At least 14 to 16 companies have applied for authorization under the new regime, which requires capital ranging from 10.8 million to 37.2 million reais depending on the activities performed, with no guarantee that a license will be granted.
