In October 2025, the U.S. government sold roughly $627 million worth of Anthropic shares seized from Caroline Ellison and Nishad Singh, two former FTX executives. Anthropic had first repurchased 4,453,900 Series B shares at $140.9676 each before reselling them at the same price to nine accredited investors. At a hypothetical valuation of $1.5 trillion, the block would be worth about $3.94 billion, nearly $3.3 billion more than the amount paid by the authorities. The Department of Justice said the sale proceeds were transferred to the administrators of the FTX bankruptcy to compensate victims, while a total payment of $638 million was made in late 2025. The potential gain remains theoretical, however, because Washington has not shown that it could have sold all the shares at that future valuation.
