South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb is investigating a data leak caused by a breach of its internal mobile system, which it discovered on Tuesday. The company notified the Korea Internet & Security Agency and the Personal Information Protection Commission that same day. Bithumb is assessing whether information on its members was compromised, but says its internal work system is separate from its virtual asset trading platform, preventing access to customers’ cryptocurrencies. The incident adds to a recent wave of cyberattacks against South Korea’s financial sector, which had affected 16 financial firms as of October 14. Daishin Securities reported a leak affecting data belonging to 38,490 customers, while Mirae Asset Global Investments said investor information was not affected.
