Zcash is facing competing proposals to reduce or eliminate its developer subsidies after co-founder Sean Bowe proposed ending automatic payments to the Zcash Community Grants program, which receives 8% of block rewards. Bowe said the program controls more than $125 million, including approximately 91,453 ZEC, while its annual allocation is worth $68.3 million against annualized spending of $6.12 million. Josh Swihart and Tyler Winklevoss are demanding broader cuts, while a proposal from Dismad would preserve reduced funding until 2036 before ending it. The dispute comes amid strong growth, with ZEC gaining about 260% over the past year, exceeding a $20 billion market capitalization and processing roughly 11,300 daily transactions in late October. Grayscale nevertheless argues that continued developer funding will be needed to increase network capacity, prepare Zcash for quantum-computing threats and strengthen cybersecurity.
