The Centre Pompidou is creating a five-year patrons’ circle, running from 2026 to 2031, to fund the acquisition, conservation, research, publication and exhibition of digital art. Ismail Tazi and Benjamin Gross, also known as RedBeard, are its founding patrons, while Xavier Rey, Marcella Lista and Philippe Bettinelli represent the museum. The committee will pay particular attention to works created and registered on a blockchain and to generative art, continuing the museum’s acquisition of 18 blockchain-related projects by 13 artists in 2023. The collection, which has since expanded with works by Robert Alice, Rhea Myers, Anna Ridler and Tyler Hobbs, is being presented in Shanghai and Hamburg as well as online while the Paris building remains closed for renovation until 2030. For artists and collectors, the initiative signals institutional continuity and provides funding for the long-term conservation of blockchain-based works beyond the platforms that sold them.
