Elon Musk says more than 200 specialist AI cloud providers could fail or consolidate as lenders reduce financing to companies without substantial revenue outside AI data centers. He claims SpaceX secured $40 billion in debt financing for GPUs thanks to its investment-grade status and revenue from Starlink and its space businesses. Gartner forecasts that more than 80% of specialist cloud providers will cease operating independently by 2030 because their massive AI infrastructure investments are not generating sufficient returns. The pressure could also affect Bitcoin miners that have pivoted to AI infrastructure, while spending on AI-optimized infrastructure as a service is projected to rise from $66 billion in 2027 to $174 billion in 2030.
