Anthropic’s token volume has reportedly risen 3.6-fold since Claude Opus 5.5 launched on September 22, 2026. Cheaper and faster than its predecessor, the model, which targets coding, research and long-running professional tasks, cuts operating costs by about 40% and generates output more than 30% faster. Early tests nevertheless show token consumption per task falling by one-third, suggesting that the overall surge is mainly driven by users running substantially more tasks. Anthropic reduced input and output token prices by 20% and cache-read prices by 60%, but the extent to which higher usage translates into revenue remains uncertain because the breakdown by token type has not been disclosed.
