SPB plans to install an AI supercomputer by the end of 2027 at the former Condat-sur-Vézère paper mill, with a €2 billion investment, 250 direct jobs and an initial 25-megawatt phase. Located 10 minutes from the Lascaux cave in a Natura 2000 area, the project has prompted more than 5,600 petition signatures and a public meeting attended by over 400 residents. Concerns include cooling water, unidentified clients, heat reuse and democratic oversight, while the site benefits from existing gas and high-voltage connections and plans to train up to 200 specialists per year. Nationally, the relatively small project is part of a queue of 80 data centers representing 18 gigawatts reserved by RTE, as local opposition grows over energy, environmental and governance issues.
