Amazon launched the Amazon Youth Promise on October 20, with the aim of creating 30,000 entry-level jobs in the UK by 2030. The program will also provide training for people not in employment, education or training, a group that currently numbers around one million in the UK. Starting salaries will be 31,000 British pounds, or roughly $41,500. The initiative is part of the UK government’s efforts to reduce youth unemployment, alongside commitments from Microsoft, Cisco and IBM. Amazon nevertheless eliminated roughly 1,000 corporate positions in India, the UK and its retail business after cutting 30,000 jobs over the past year to restructure its operations and focus more heavily on AI.
