Circle shareholder sues Trump, World Liberty and Steve Witkoff over crypto deals

A shareholder of Circle Internet Financial, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, filed a lawsuit on Thursday in the US District Court for the District of Columbia against Donald Trump, his family, World Liberty Financial and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. The complaint alleges that MGX, an Abu Dhabi entity tied to the United Arab Emirates royalty, invested $2 billion in Binance through the USD1 stablecoin, creating a channel that allows foreign governments to favor the Trump family’s business activities. Benjamin Greenberg, who owns 10,000 Circle shares, claims the transactions left Circle unable to compete with USD1 and is seeking damages and the return of foreign payments. Circle said it did not initiate the lawsuit, while World Liberty and the White House did not respond to requests for comment. Public Citizen reported that Trump and his family’s crypto ventures earned him $1.4 billion in 2025, an issue Democrats are using ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
