Personal agents like Meta’s Muse could fuel AI’s growth — and challenge Amazon and Apple

Share

Investors expect autonomous agents to open a new revenue phase for the AI industry, despite their still experimental nature and the risks surrounding personal data and cybersecurity. Muse reached nine million U.S. downloads in 36 days, compared with 670 days for Anthropic’s Claude, while Meta’s stock gained 5.7% since its launch. Citi estimates that Muse could generate $27 billion for Meta over the coming years through subscriptions and transactions, and analysts forecast that Meta’s annual revenue will rise from $255 billion this year to $430 billion in 2029. By controlling purchases, searches and transactions, these agents could erode Amazon’s revenue, bypass Apple’s App Store fees and pressure AI service pricing. Meta paused a Muse feature after researchers discovered vulnerabilities that exposed personal files and internal documents, while the company is also appealing a $25 billion penalty in New Mexico over data protection practices.
