STRK holders approved, with 93.5% support, the exploration of an independent blockchain designed to withstand quantum computer attacks. The vote does not authorize a migration: StarkWare must publish a technical document in November outlining the consensus model and the treatment of the bridge to Ethereum before a new vote. STARK proofs use hash functions resistant to Shor’s algorithm, but the bridge and verification contracts deployed on Ethereum remain vulnerable to quantum threats. A potential move to layer 1 would require funding its own consensus and rewarding its validators, even though most of Starknet’s capital remains on Ethereum and the Ethereum Foundation is already working to make its consensus layer quantum-resistant.
