The Cardano Foundation announced that 100,000 farms in India are now registered on the Cardano blockchain, compared with about 15,000 in June. The 5am.earth project, developed with Syngenta Foundation India and several partners, aims to record agricultural data on the blockchain to ensure transparency and verifiability. Each farm receives a digital identity linked to land boundaries verified through satellite imagery, along with a history of agricultural practices going back as far as 12 years. The infrastructure, which could support up to one million farms, aims to improve farmers’ access to financial services and reduce verification costs for banks, insurers, and agribusinesses. The Foundation says more than 100 million small farmers in India remain outside the formal economy, partly because of a lack of reliable agricultural data.
