Recursive launches Flint, a fast open-weight coding model built to run locally

Share

Recursive launched Flint on October 21, 2026, a 40-billion-parameter coding model designed to run on a local computer. The company says it generates more than 125 tokens per second on a MacBook Pro with an M4 Pro chip and could reach 150 tokens per second or more on RTX Spark hardware. Developed in less than four months by a small team using the Eureka Machine automated research system, Flint reportedly performs up to twice as well as comparable models and supports agentic coding on machines with 48GB of RAM. Its open weights are available for free on Hugging Face, allowing developers to run the model without sending their code to an external provider. Recursive has raised $650 million at a $4.65 billion valuation, backed by Google Ventures, Greycroft, Nvidia, and AMD Ventures, although its performance claims still come primarily from the company.
