Blockaid reveals that $1.18 billion was stolen between January and August 2026 across the crypto sector, with a recovery rate of just 0.8% ($9.8 million returned to victims). All recovery or freezing of funds came through governance votes or validator interventions, with token issuer blacklists contributing nothing. Stolen funds are typically moved within a median of 17 minutes, directed to non-freezable assets like native ETH. As of early September, $287.1 million in traceable stolen assets remained held by hackers, including $229 million tied to the Solana-based Drift Protocol exploit. Blockaid provides this data as a security partner to major platforms including Coinbase, MetaMask, and Uniswap.
