Zcash cofounder Eli Ben Sasson has backed Ethereum’s approach to quantum resistance, disagreeing with a16z crypto which advocated for lattice-based cryptography. Ben Sasson argued that lattices present a mathematical structure vulnerable to AI attacks. Vitalik Buterin and Gabriel Shapiro from Delphi Labs also rejected a16z’s position, stating that Ethereum’s strategy using hash-based cryptography combined with STARKs for signature aggregation remains the best option. Ethereum is preparing its post-quantum transition by planning to replace BLS signatures, which are not quantum-resistant, with hash-based signatures such as Winternitz variants.
