Ethereum’s faster proofs face Vitalik’s next test: a hard cost limit

Share

Vitalik Buterin has called for a hard ceiling on Ethereum proving costs per unit of block gas, adding a resource-accounting test to the push for faster zero-knowledge proofs. EIP-7904 recommends no compute gas-cost changes, but its analysis does not specifically address ZK-SNARK proof generation. ZKsync’s Airbender team demonstrated that a single NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell GPU proved 99% of 7,200 consecutive Ethereum mainnet blocks in under 10 seconds each. The next objective is to establish a bound on the hardest permitted workloads against explicit hardware and time budgets for independent prover operators.
