LayerZero’s Aerie tackles the post-quantum signature bloat problem

Share

LayerZero Labs unveiled Aerie on October 16, 2026, a signature aggregation system developed with a16z crypto research, Carnegie Mellon University, and Imperial College London. Aerie aggregates thousands of Falcon signatures in under a second on an ordinary laptop, compressing proofs to approximately 42 bytes per signature while making verification 10 times faster. The system uses the lattice-based Akita polynomial commitment scheme to process roughly 46,000 Falcon-512 signatures per second on CPU, with peak memory usage of 2.1 GiB. The generated proofs are 16 times smaller than previous solutions and verification is 38 times faster than Orthus, one of its main competitors. This breakthrough gives blockchains a path toward post-quantum cryptography without requiring specialized hardware.
