According to a study by blockchain data firm Bitquery published October 16, only 18% of closed regular positions under $1,000 beat simply holding the tokens after deducting gas fees, compared with 51% before fees. Across 71,166 closed regular positions in eight sampled Ethereum v3 pools, 49% beat holding before gas and 34% after gas. The study covers October 14, 2025 through October 13, 2026, with $41.6 million in collected fees, a $60.6 million inventory shortfall against holding, and $1.4 million in gas, totaling a cumulative $20.4 million behind holding. Uniswap v4 could reduce transfer costs through flash accounting, but a provider’s final outcome still depends on the inventory returned, fees earned and gas paid over the position’s lifetime.
