According to a Grayscale Research report released on October 14, 2026, Bitcoin’s one-year realized volatility has fallen to 43%, down from 81% five years ago and below its ten-year average of 64%. The analysis reveals that 57% of S&P 500 companies exhibit higher volatility than Bitcoin. Grayscale attributes this decline to the maturation of the asset, citing increased liquidity, stronger institutional participation, and the emergence of regulated trading venues such as spot ETFs. The firm suggests that risk management strategies used for equities could be applied to Bitcoin. However, realized volatility measures past performance and does not guarantee similar future stability.
