Twelve state attorneys general have asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to approve the Green Chile pipeline, a 17.8-mile natural gas pipeline running through New Mexico to power Oracle’s Project Jupiter data center. The project, with a capacity of 2.5 GW and potential investment of up to $165 billion, is expected to create approximately 5,800 construction jobs and generate $1.1 billion in annual economic output. New Mexico’s attorney general, Raul Torrez, opposes the fast-tracking and demands a comprehensive environmental impact study on the entire data center rather than just the pipeline. The targeted in-service date has already slipped from August 15, 2026 to February 1, 2027. FERC’s decision will determine whether this new timeline holds.
